Thanks to my mother, I’ve had women like Marilyn Monroe and Betty Page to look up to since I was a little girl. But now I have questions. Where were all of the brown pin ups for me to look up to? With age I realized that this was no fault of my mothers but the fault of Hollywood, surprise surprise. African American pin up models weren’t favorable or considered charming back in the 1950’s. As all of you know we’re in the second week of spring and finally starting to get a glimpse of hope on the forecast. This long awaited 60º weather has everybody hype, especially me!
Keeping my mind on the soon to be weather inspired me to put together this outfit. Yes, ironically enough I look like I cliff dived into Ace Ventura’s wardrobe; and it’s safe to say that I am unapologetically ROCKING IT.
Good morning beautiful people!
I hope y’all are having a better week than last. I took some time within the last week to many things; grieve, reflect, recoup and sit down with like-minded souls to evaluate what it was we needed to do in order to keep us and others sane for the next four years of the Trump presidency; and we came to the conclusion that we will grieve, reflect and recoup through our art. But, along with helping ourselves, we want to use our creativity to heal the community. Continue reading “Post Election Blues”
Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone has been enjoying this beautiful weather we’ve been having; it’s finally starting to feel like spring. Of course, I had to take advantage of this guud warm weather and get another post in the works for you guys – I’m giving this thing called consistency a try, I’ll let you know how that works out lol.
With that being said, I gave none other than the great Carolyn (@graphicfemale) a call and set up a date to roam the city. There’s nothing like wandering Philadelphia when everything’s in bloom. The energy of the whole city shifts – there truly is a power in witnessing the rebirth of flowers. Carolyn and I made sure we were stopping every couple of blocks to take pictures of all of the blossoming little buds 🙂 Continue reading “Concrete Garden”
Welcome back everyone! I’m sad to say that The Trap Queen Chronicles will be over after this post but we’re ending with a bang! My last look, “Thug-ish”, is dedicated to street style in its purest and sassiest form.
Yes, the name did stem from the ever so comedic sitcom Black-ish, which I highly recommend!
This look was inspired by Ingrid’s video for her new single “Flex” where she stunts around Houston’s 3rd ward ~flexing~ the swanky lady boss that she is. Don’t worry you know I’ll leave the video below for y’all.
For me this look was all about swag. Have you ever seen someone strutting down the street and it looks like they don’t have a care in the world? Like they almost couldn’t be bothered but you’re consumed by how their energy flows through their outfit? Now, on the flip-side have you ever worn an outfit that has you catching looks up and down the block? Having you feel like the #1 S-T-U-N-N-A? That was the side of the coin I wanted to be on, needed to be on and WAS on. Nothing could bring ya girl down, I felt like the sh*t in this fit y’all! You will definitely be able to see the pedestal I put myself on in these photos- as I should haha. Continue reading “The Trap Queen Chronicles: Thug-ish”
